Tax-filing season is turning into a challenge for thousands of employees whose companies have been duped by email fraudsters. A major phishing scheme has tricked companies into relinquishing tax documents that exposed their workers' incomes, addresses and Social Security numbers. Fraudsters who perpetrate tax refund fraud want W-2 information because it contains virtually all of the data one would need to fraudulently file someone’s taxes and request a large refund in their name.
